Maintain Your Machines on Schedule

Grease deteriorates with time, so even bearings that have been packed with high quality grease will eventually need re-lubrication. Grease deteriorates because the oil base gradually breaks down from oxidation or evaporates. Re-lubrication is then required.

Lubrication intervals vary greatly depending upon the type and size of bearing used, as well as upon the operating conditions. To re-lubricate bearings, follow the machine manufacturer's specifications. Begin by cleaning the grease fitting and removing the drain plug. After adding the new grease, run the unit for about an hour before reinstalling the drain plug. This purges excess grease without damaging the windings. If the manufacturer's lubrication specifications are not available, the bearing re-lubrication intervals chart below may be used.
